Our Trip to Beaver Lodge in June 2004

Erik is our co-pilot for our flight to Beaver Lodge.

On our approach we catch a glimpse of Beaver Lodge.

Once the pilot determines there are no boats in the way, we go in for the landing.

Beaver Lodge was built by Jacques Cousteau in 1974 while he filmed his study of a year in the life of a beaver.

Our cabin is cozy.

It's not long before Erik snags a Pike.  The Pike's not real happy about this.

Erik persists and...

Eventually, the Pike gives up.

On our way down the rapids, I catch a trout with the Canadian lure.

Further down the river, we spot a bald eagle looking for food.

Then we spot the nest.

Then we find some more Pike.

They tell us this is the coldest June in 120 years.  The 25+ Mph winds didn't help matters either.

Erik lands his first trout.  He quickly lands two more before we lose all our Canadian lures.  Dad has a spare from last year, so we can still fish.

Gosh, another pike.  This time, Dad has more of his blood in the boat than the pike do.

Here a pike, there a pike, everywhere a pike...

Finally, Erik lands his big fish, a 30" pike.

Tired from fighting with the pike, we find a nice spot for lunch.

Erik really enjoys BLTs on freshly baked bread.

Later that afternoon, the Dimestore Fishermen arrive to shoot a show about Beaver Lodge.

Dad lands a big pike as they get their gear ready and everyone's excited.

On our last day, Erik lands a nice 24" trout.  He thought he had the big one on, but those trout can sure fool you.

Then we have to fly home.  I don't think they could find a smaller plane.

Bye, bye!
