RYAN WEIRICH

Week of May 15 Ryan is still low on energy, and only lasts about 1/2 day at school.  His incision is healing nicely.
Tues May 16 Today Ryan got his pins out and his cast OFF!  He will be in a sling for 3 more weeks but he can start swimming (pool only) in 1 week.  He was told no lake for 6 weeks - very disappointed!
Week of May 8 Ryan has been going to school, however, he has yet to last an entire day.  He usually gets tired or his arm starts hurting about mid day and he comes home (or goes to Ms. Anna's which is a lot more fun) to rest. Thanks! Anna.
2 Tuesday Follow up Dr's appt.  Both Dr. Kelley (plastic surgeon) and Dr. Williams (orthopedic surgeon) checked out their work and they decided he is making great progress, things look good.  They took his stitches out, took another x-ray, put a cast on his arm and told him he is clear to go back to school.  His next appointment will be May 16th, when they will remove the pins from his arm.
1 Monday Cabin fever has truly set in.  After a miserable day at home with 'nothing' to do, he watched Erik's tennis practice and then went to Main Event (sponge and all) with Erik, Nick & Alex (Erik's friends from tennis).
Weekend! Ry watched his soccer team win their final game on Saturday and watched his brother's tennis match on Sunday.
28 Friday Another quiet day at home.  Hunter, Haley and Hunter(HP) stopped by to visit after school and Dad returned home from a weeklong business trip.  First day with fewer pain pills!
27 Thursday Slept in till 11am! (not Mom, just Ryan)  Kyle came over to visit and play some video games. Ryan proves once again that he can do anything he sets his mind to....Grace also came over and kept Ryan entertained with the wooden train set.  Ryan couldn't keep away from soccer so he went to watch his team practice for a little while.
26 Wednesday Quiet day at home watching movies.  No fever worth mentioning.  Only crisis today was running out of his Tylenol 3 prescription which we finally got re-filled tonight.  Ryan went to watch Erik's tennis practice from the car and handled the outing pretty well.  Car rides are still a bit uncomfortable, each little bump causes some pain so we will keep these to a minimum for now although cabin fever is beginning to set in.
25 Tuesday Ryan had a quick little trip back to the ER.  He started running a fever early afternoon and needed to get checked out.  The surgeon who did his artery repair met us at the hospital and checked everything over, and he seems to be doing just fine.  We are to watch fever and if it gets high (102 or more) come back, but for now, he's doing alright so we are back home.
24 Monday Ryan is feeling much better out of the hospital in his mother's care.  He has been watching a lot of movies and spending a lot of time with his family.  He has his first follow up with his Ortho Dr. on May 2nd.
23 Sunday Ryan is recovering at home (258-8055) with the entire household waiting on him hand and foot.  Right now Doctors want him out of school until May 10th.  He still does not have a cast.
22 Saturday Ryan had another surgery at 9am to clean and dress his wounds.  Surgeon decided to also close up his wounds.  To the surprise of everyone, around dinner time the Dr. gave Ryan the OK to go home!
21 Friday Ryan is showing great progress.  Initially the were going to keep him in PICU thru Saturday, but he is progressing so well that they moved him into a new room that is more of a medium critical care unit.  Room 431.
20 Thursday In Pediatric ICU, room C123.  His pulses and blood pressure are looking good.  He has a morphine drip to manage the pain and his own button to press if he needs a booster.  His 'good' arm is filled with IV's and monitors so he can't use it for much of everything.
19 Wednesday Ry spent the afternoon in surgery to fix the broken bone and severed artery.  Surgery went well, he has pins in his broken humorous bone and they opened up his lower arm to alleviate pressure on the muscle as it was expected to swell due to the trauma it suffered by being without blood for so long.
